New release: Jane Wallace-Knight

The Angel of Death by  Jane Wallace-Knight

jwk-twog-tht2theangelofdeath

Six months ago Sam Reed’s life was changed forever. Not only did he discover that his father was an angel, but he was also turned into a vampire. On top of that Sam met his fated mate, an alpha werewolf named Jackson Harcourt, who already had a lover of fifty years, a vampire named Alek Harcourt. Miraculously the three of them built a life together and had enjoyed six months of relative bliss.

Everything changes, however, when Sam meets the father he never knew and is warned of a terrible threat. The Brotherhood of the Righteous is a sect of angels who hunt down demons and all that descend from them. A nephilim turned vampire is at the top of their hit list. With a clock ticking down and newfound powers that he can’t control, Sam and his mates must decide what is best for their pack, and whether they should run, or fight.

The Angel of Death is available here from Siren BookStrand.

Red Moon Rising – release day and excerpt

Well, the title says it all. 🙂 Red Moon Rising is out today, and available from Siren BookStrand with a 15% new-release discount. It’s the third book in my Strength of the Pack series.

Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Tristan Howe is abducted and imprisoned by a pack at war with his own. His future looks bleak until he finds an unexpected ally in enemy pack member, Colby Williams. A fragile bond develops between them as they escape together.

Safely back with his own pack, Tristan finds his feelings for Colby are more than just gratitude for being rescued. He’s delighted to learn that they’re reciprocated, and even more excited to realize he and Colby are mates.

But idealistic Tristan finally has to face up to the fact that even true love might not be enough to defeat the forces ranged against them—not least his pack-mates’ suspicion and hostility toward Colby, and a mate so scarred by his abusive past that he doesn’t know how to be free. All Tristan can do is try.

And to celebrate a lovely, sunny release day, here’s a little PG excerpt:

Tristan stretched contentedly. He could smell coffee and the unidentifiable mixture of scents that spelled home. And then he remembered and sat up with a gasp, desperate to know if this was real or a dream.

“Easy, Tris,” Bryce said, from where he was sitting next to his bed. He reached out to stroke Tristan’s hair. “You’re safe.”

The familiar touch and voice, things that had grounded him through his teenage years and had never once let him down, were too much for Tristan. He choked Bryce’s name and threw himself into his waiting arms.

“Shh, you’re home, you’re okay,” Bryce was murmuring over and over, rubbing circles on Tristan’s back that were steady and strong, and so unlike his voice which was husky and strained.

It was his stomach grumbling that finally caused Tristan to draw back. He was starving. The last thing he’d eaten was that god-awful stew—

“Colby,” he said, as it came crashing back to him. “Where’s Colby? What happened?” Continue reading “Red Moon Rising – release day and excerpt”

Shifting Sands contract signed

I’ve just signed the contract for Strength of the Pack 4: Shifting Sands, in which some long-buried secrets come to light, rat droppings are shamefully misused, and Bryce discovers the joys of chastity.

Shifting Sands will be released April/May 2014.

A Liar’s Moon review, Karl, and competence porn

A Liar’s Moon has just received a lovely 4.5 Sweet Pea review from Lucky over on Mrs Condit & Friends Read Books. Thank you, Lucky, and I’m so glad it lived up to expectations!

“Favorite character: Karl – I’m dying to know his story. Even though he’s a secondary character in this one, he’s definitely someone you do not want to mess with.”

I’m seeing something of a pattern – Karl appears to be a favourite character with quite a few people. We get some competence porn from him in Red Moon Rising, but I’m afraid his full story will have to wait for the last book. He’s just not as pushy as some of the others. He could kill them where they sleep, but he’s not pushy.

Red Moon Rising available for pre-order

Red Moon Rising, the third book in my Strength of the Pack series, is now available for pre-order from Siren with a 15% new release discount.

NOTE: there are two scenes early on in the book involving dubious consent. They are not between the two main characters and are very brief.

So, that’s done.

I finally finished editing the fourth Strength of the Pack book this afternoon and have submitted it to Siren. Now it’s a case of waiting to hear, always the hardest part.

As a reward for all my hard work, I’ve given myself the rest of the day off and have been going gooey over pictures of adorable fuzzy wolf pups. I wish I could work some into the series because they are the cutest things.

Happy New Year, and cuteness overload

A slightly belated (for most) happy new year to everyone. I hope 2014 is kind to you all.

While I haven’t lost my newly discovered fascination with wolves, I’ve been slightly distracted over the last few days watching the BBC series Kangaroo Dundee. It follows a number of people around Alice Springs who rescue orphaned baby kangaroos and hand-rear them, and I cannot believe how cute the little joeys are.

I have the utmost admiration for the volunteers’ commitment, because these little guys take a lot of time and effort to look after. But mainly it’s the cuteness that has me transfixed:

Even so, I don’t think i’m going to be writing about a mob of kangaroo shifters any time soon. Oh drat – I had to say that out loud, didn’t I?

When the writer gets in the way of the writing.

I’ve been struggling this past week with the writing of my current book. I put that fact down to all the interruptions this time of the year brings, but yesterday I finally realised the true reason: I’d taken a wrong turn two pages back, so nothing I’d written since then (and then deleted, rinse and repeat multiple times) was working. And it’s all because I thought I knew best and somehow stopped listening to the character in question (for those who don’t write like this, I  understand how strange that might sound).

The annoying thing is that I know better. I do this quite frequently. Take Red Moon Rising – I started it three times. I spent days planning, frustrated beyond words at why it wasn’t quite working. And then I admitted to myself I’d been holding out against one of the characters. My intention had been that it was Bryce who got together with Colby, because (a) that way the plot worked(!), and (b) he was the guy with the experience and emotional intelligence to know what someone coming out of an abusive relationship might need. But ever since he laid eyes on Colby, Tristan had been jumping up and down, practically holding his breath till he turned bright red, in between yelling “Mine! Mine!”. So when I finally decided to try and start the book with the Tristan/Colby pairing, just to show Tristan all the reasons why they wouldn’t work, it flowed and didn’t stop flowing for c45k words.

I guess I should just learn to let the characters get on with it. Even if they end up making terrible mistakes, they’re theirs to make.
